Printed map. Visual scale [76 mm=5 Scottish miles]. Ornate cartouche in lower left corner of the map featuring male rural characters and domestic animals. Upper right corner has the arms of Scotland. Elaborate compass, with lines radiating outwards, appears to the left of the arms of Scotland. Three cherubs playing with a surveyor's chain appear above the visual scale. Map borders show graduation of latitude and longitude.
On verso: text in Dutch in 2 columns under the heading, "Lotiana, ofte Lothian." Each page on verso is numbered (one clearly "186"). Page 186 has an ornamental design below the text, and below the design are the letters, "ORCA", which are scratched out with ink.
Described in Thomas Chubb, The Printed Maps in the Atlases of Great Britain and Ireland, entry LXX, p. 65-71, which indicates that the map is from Jansson's Novus atlas.
