In this second state of the plate, 'Romleel' is deleted and the signs of erasure and re-engraving are readily apparent in the plate. This second state also uses the name 'Highnater' ... immediatley above the 280 meridian at the bottom of the map." This map is possibly the first to show James and Hudson Bays, however, the place names are largely fictitious. Acquired as part of the Hodsoll Collection.

There are no cartographic changes to the plate [of De Wit, first state, 1675], but 'JAMES/ISLE DE JAQUES' is engraved centrally; 'BAYE D'HUDSON' is added; 'Fol. 26' is engraved in the top right corner just outside the neat-line [McMaster's copy has "Fol. 28"], and numerous place names are added. The place names around the western and southern shore of Hudson Bay (Fort Bourbon, Fort de Neusavvane etc.) are engraved the right way up and contrast visually with the original names which were all engraved upside down."
