Description
Front: Trainwreck beside a train station. Two boys and two men stand atop the rubble. "This is the last of three different photos a local collector donated to us of the 1907 train wreck at the Mahone Bay Junction Station on February 9th, 1907 between a lumber train coming down the hill too fast and a train that was stopped at the station. Unlike the other photos, this one shows the damage to the lumber shed, which was a separate building not attached to the actual station which is on the left. This Mahone Junction station, the second station in Mahone Bay, was built on the northern edge of town in 1903 near the corner of Welcome Street and Wye Street. This website has a great amount of detail about the train wreck but, please be warned, it gets quite graphic with the injuries of the men: http://hswdpi.ca/wiki/index.php… If you're interested in the railway history in the area, be sure to check out the Halifax & SouthWestern Railway Museum in Lunenburg!"
