Map exhibiting the great post roads, physical and political divisions of Europe... : [Sheet 3]
Printed map. "By A. Arrowsmith". 2 visual scales [39 mm = 60 English Miles approximately]. The legends for France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Hungary, and Switzerland are on this sheet. Two journeys by sea are marked on this sheet, presumably by the map’s previous owner. Trip 1 is marked in light red with the dates in pencil. The trip began at Lands End in August 1812 by sea to the Mediterranean, returning across land in Spain and by sea to Lands End in January, 1814. Trip 2 is marked in light blue with the dates in pencil. This trip began in Dover in August of 1814, to Calais and across Europe to Civita Vecchia in Italy. There are cruises marked near Italy and Sicily and then to Genoa where the land trip continued to Calais, returning to Dover in September, 1815. Acquired as part of the Lord Cholmondely collection.
