A copy of this map is believed to have been consulted by Sir Mark Sykes, representing Great Britain, and Francois Georges Picot, representing France, when negotiating the Sykes-Picot Agreement involving the arrogation of territory in the Middle East in anticipation of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire during the First World War.
