Description
Front: Postcard issued in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the construction of T. Eaton Co.'s "Big Store" on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The image is a composite real photo showing the Portage Avenue facade of the building decorated to resemble a large Union Jack, as occurred several times on patriotic occasions (likely war-related in this case, given the date). There is also a ten-tiered cake emblematic of the store's expansion over the years. The reverse of this postcard typically lists the recipe for the massive cake (e.g. "180 lbs. currants") and provides some statistics relating to the size and growth of the famous department store. Back: Message: 2. This is a picture of the fire from here on new year. I signed my card this morning. I signed the two bottom questions no. how did dad sign them. Pre-printed: "Some Cake" is Right! - followed by a listing of the quantities of ingredients; it also lists the square footage of the Eaton's Winnipeg store from 1905 to 1915 and the number of employees.
