Description
Manuscript map. True north arrow is pointing diagonally down to the lower-right corner of the map. Inset diagram: "Line as formed about 1 1/2 Miles from the Shore." This map and the other two manuscript maps of Alexandria in this collection were given to Robert Clifford by General John Graves Simcoe as mentioned on page 224 of the book, "John Graves Simcoe, 1752-1806: A Biography," by Mary Beacock Fryer and Christopher Dracott. Fryer and Dracott cite a letter from Clifford to Simcoe, dated June 1, 1801, in the Archives of Ontario, Simcoe series F47-3, microfilm reel 12, item 168, where Clifford "thanked him for sketches of Alexandria." This map was acquired by McMaster University in 1969 as part of the Cholmondeley collection.
